- Work with product management to determine which features will be implemented in a given development cycle, and then
craft concise specs that engineering can use to properly implement these features.
Senior Software Engineer, TalentSpring (2008-2010)
- Implemented the user interface for our candidate search engine using HTML, CSS, and advanced JavaScript.
- Working with another engineer, completely rebuilt our site in order to serve our new business goals.
- Introduced unit testing to the team. We now have hundreds of tests that keep our site quality high.
- Helped manage agile development process. Deployed online tool to manage process and worked with team to measure progress and stay on-track through each iteration.
Web Application Creator, 7actions Development

7actions Development is my own company that develops unique,
innovative, focused web applications. I have designed and built the
following sites:
- 7actions, a site for writing down
your todos and then finding the actions that move them toward completion
(Ruby/Rails).
- MemoirLine, a site for creating
and sharing timelines of your life (Ruby/Rails).
- PygmyList, a site for making wish
lists that preserve the spontaneity and surprise of gift-giving
(PHP).
CTO, Preclick (2001-2008)
- Shipped 11 consumer digital photo applications, for vendors like HP,
Wal-Mart, Walgreens, 3M, and Costco.
- Directed product development across the company. Responsible for
architecture and design for all products. Chose all development
technologies.
- Co-wrote and designed our flagship photo application. Wrote over 8
core and advanced components for many different products, including home
photo printing, image editing, and sophisticated photo display widgets.
Designed and implemented an application framework that was used in 5 of
our major commercial applications.
- Created and oversaw an agile development process that allowed us to
deliver interim builds every few weeks and ship high-quality releases on
schedule.
- Managed teams of engineers that were located all over the
globe.
Senior Project Manager, Webmind (1999-2001)
- Managed the development of a Recommendation System that allowed
consumers to find products that most closely matched their
requests.
- Managed the development of a browser-based search engine that pulled
together several different AI technologies, including Natural Language
parsing and machine inference.
Lead Architect, Actioneer (1997-1999)
- Responsible for the development and overall product design of our
flagship application, including the user interface and the underlying
architecture.
- Authored core components, including a lightweight, programmable
natural language parser and an XML-based database. Led the effort to
speech-enable the product using IBM's ViaVoice.
Software Engineer, Jump! Software (1996-1997)
- Developed version 2.0 of Piano Discovery System, an interactive
commercial product to teach children and adults how to play the
piano.
- Created the graphics/animation engine, and wrote two educational
games for the product.
Software Engineer, NVen (1994-1995)
- Worked with David Allen (Getting Things Done) to develop a suite of
applications for helping people manage their actions and time.
Independent Contractor, Apple Computer
(1993-1994)
- Worked for Apple's Developer University on the Code Annotator
project, which allowed a user to add notes to code and follow a program
as it ran.
